Jay's Jazz Journey March 3-5th
March 3rd
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful is how I describe this week's Jazz Journey.
As usual, the H.O.M.E. Beverly Hills Jazz Jam was on hit. Once again, the silky-voiced Harmonica Otis killed the crowd on his Mississippi Saxophone. Other standouts were Lorraina Marro, Ann Mack and Tony Jones! Never a dull moment - not with John B. Williams, Rayford Griffin, Louis Van Taylor and Bradley Young running the band.
March 4th
At the Aldabella Winery in Westlake Village the incredible Kiki Ebsen put on a grand performance.
Accompanied by the steady Dori Amarillio on guitar, the show had audience members yelling cheers and requests throughout the night. Kiki is always good at mixing Jazz standards, soft rock, pop and original music. The stories about her father, beloved actor Buddy Ebsen, always serves as a nice treat.
March 5th
Saturday brought me to
The Market Broiler in Simi Valley where my band, Jay Jackson & The Nu Lu Band, did the damn thang. It was great to see the talented Chantel Denise in the house. She sang and wowed the crowd.
Jazz quote of the week - Miles Davis: "If they act too hip, you know they can’t play shit."
