Jay's Jazz Journeys: March 18th - 20th, 2016
March 18th - Aldabella Winery
All That Jazz! The weekend started with a spectacular performance by Michelle Coltrane
at a packed Aldabella Winery in Westlake Village. It was standing room only as she, guitar boss Shea Welsh and bass man Ahmet Turk stunned the crowd. You can never go wrong with this trio.
March 19th - Market Broiler Simi Valley
On Saturday, angel-voiced Gretje Angell filled every seat at the Market Broiler in Simi Valley. Joined by the always deft hand of Dori Amarillio on guitar, you could hear a
pin drop once these two got going. When the right person hears Angell, goodbye. She's a lovely mix of Julie London, Chris Connor and a bit of Norah Jones. I look forward to any recording she makes.
March 20th - Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center
What is there to say about the great Barbara Morrison? Unparralleld, miraculous, giant? Words really don't measure up. Her long running tribute to Dinah Washington, 'I Wanna Be Loved' had every seat filled at the
Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center, once again. Of course, yours truly has been part of the fun from the start and loved every single performance. Barbara truly is gifted in making every show new, somehow. A master.
Bogie's Bar Westlake Village
Later, I was able to catch Kiki Ebsen's show at Bogie's Bar in Westlake Village. What a show it was! She sang everything from Cabaret to Curtis Mayfield. Kiki is truly a great professional and her tribute to her father,
Hollywood legend Buddy Ebsen, is hypnotic. The stories she tells are truly personal and powerful.
In short, just another great weekend in Jay's Jazz Journeys!
